It is important to be aware of your housing rights and to understand the advice given to you if you are faced with homelessness, to make sure that you do not leave your home unless you have no other choice.
This section gives some of the most common reasons for becoming homeless and offeres advice to help you stay in your home.

People can get into difficulties staying in their home for a number of reasons.  Some of these might be:

  • A relationship breakdown
  • Being unable to afford where you live
  • Asked to leave by your landlord
  • Being evicted from your home.
  • Mortgage arrears.
  • Home no longer suitable because of a disability or ill health.
  • Asked to leave by family and friends
  • Domestic abuse.
  • Your home is not safe to live in
  • A lack of support to help you manage in your home.
  • Drug and alcohol problems
  • You are on remand or going to prison.
  • Lack of suitable gypsy /traveller sites
